The Challenge

One manufacturer, three trading markets.

Trade Mouldings is a family-owned kitchen and bedroom component manufacturer that has been trading since 1982. From a 250,000 sq ft facility in Cookstown and distribution centres in Dublin and Rochdale, they produce vinyl, timber, painted and five-piece doors, wrapped mouldings, cabinets and accessories for kitchen and bedroom retailers across Northern Ireland, Ireland and Great Britain.

Selling the same catalogue into three markets is not one ordering problem — it is three:

  • Three trading territories, three sets of rules - Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Great Britain each carry their own currency, pricing, delivery arrangements and paperwork; a single generic store front cannot represent any of them properly
  • Made-to-measure, not off-the-shelf - a trade order is a specification (range, finish, size, edge, hardware), not a SKU dropped in a basket, and every option has to be captured correctly first time
  • Volume that punishes manual handling - at production of tens of thousands of doors a week, orders taken by phone, fax and email become a re-keying and error-correction workload
  • Trade customers, trade expectations - retailers want their own pricing, their order history and the ability to place and repeat an order at 7am without ringing anyone

To be clear about scope: Two Clouds did not build the trademouldings.com website. We built the ordering systems that sit behind it — the software the trade actually places business through.

The Solution

Three regional ordering systems on one foundation.

Rather than force three markets through one compromised store, Trade Mouldings run three ordering systems — one for Northern Ireland, one for the Republic of Ireland and one for Great Britain — sharing a common foundation so the product logic is maintained once and the regional differences live where they belong.

Built in Laravel and PHP, and a working example of what we mean by kitchen manufacturing software: shaped around how the factory and the trade counter actually work, not around a template.

Three Regional Systems

Separate ordering systems for NI, ROI and GB, each with the pricing, currency, catalogue availability and delivery arrangements appropriate to that market — so a retailer in Dublin and a retailer in Manchester each see their own terms, not a generic average.

Made-to-Measure Ordering

Product configuration built for real door specifications - range, finish, sizing, edge detail and accessories - validated as the order is placed so what reaches production is buildable.

Trade Account Self-Service

Trade customers log in to their own account: their pricing, their order history, saved drafts and quotations they can come back to, repeat ordering, and progress on what they have already placed - without a phone call to the sales office.

Orders Into Production

Orders arrive as structured, complete data rather than as an email to be interpreted, which is what makes self-service ordering worth having at this volume - less re-keying, fewer corrections, a cleaner handover to the factory.

The Results

Over £10m a year, ordered without a phone call.

  • More than £10m of orders processed annually - the three systems together carry over £10m of trade business a year
  • Three markets served properly - NI, ROI and GB each get an ordering experience built for their pricing, currency and delivery reality
  • Self-service as the default - trade retailers specify and place their own orders, freeing the sales team from order-taking
  • Manual re-keying designed out - complete, validated orders reach production as data, not as messages to be transcribed
  • One foundation, three deployments - shared product logic keeps three regional systems maintainable by one team

“Three markets meant three sets of pricing, currency and delivery rules. The temptation is always to average them into one store and hope nobody notices - so we did the opposite: three ordering systems, one shared foundation, each market seeing exactly its own terms.”
